Frances L. McCarty
Frances L. McCarty, 99 years and 9 months, formerly of Henderson, Kentucky, died March 21, 2020, in Palos Park, Illinois.
Mary Frances Lacefield was born June 15, 1920, near Plumerville, Arkansas, to A.F. and Arkie (Tiner) Lacefield. She was a graduate of Cotton Plant High School and attended Arkansas State College (now Arkansas State University).
On September 20, 1941, she married Hayden McCarty, and they settled in his hometown of Spottsville, Kentucky, where they lived for eighteen years. She was an active community volunteer and president of the Spottsville school PTA. After moving to Henderson, she served for many years as a nurse at Community Methodist Hospital and as a private-duty nurse. In the early 1960s, she became a licensed real estate broker, a rare accomplishment for a woman at the time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one sister, her husband (1986), and daughter Rebecca Epperson (2013). She is survived by her children—Thomas McCarty (Carol) of Slidell, Louisiana; Mary Doran (Edward) of Oak Forest, Illinois; Julianna Calderon (late Rodolfo) of Henderson; and Steven McCarty (Sharon Burton) of Henderson—one brother, Roger L. Lacefield (Geraldine) of Greenbrier, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a resilient, adventurous, loving, and generous person. Frances always had a smile and a kind word for anyone who crossed her path, whether they be a close friend or perfect stranger. She was an avid reader and life-long learner. She was the eternal optimist.
A celebration of Frances's life will be held when possible in 2021. If you would like to make a memorial donation, please consider the Spottsville Ridgewood Cemetery Fund, PO Box 1612, Henderson, Kentucky, 42419.
