Signa Irene Fitzgerald

Star 2.jpgSigna Irene Fitzgerald 100 years young. Born August 17, 1917 in Chisholm, Minnesota. At Peace on November 15, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Edward Fitzgerald. Loving mother of Patricia (late Raymond) Wojcik, Kevin Fitzgerald and the late US Army Specialist 4th Class David Fitzgerald (K.I.A.Viet Nam 1969). Wonderful loving grandmother of Stephen (Michele) Wojcik and Heather (Michael) Stenson. Caring great-grandmother of Connor and Fiona Stenson and David, Ashley and Trevor Wojcik. Signa was a busy and socially active senior, Mom became unhappy at the end of her life for not being able to “get around”, and missed the company of her family members who preceded her in death especially Einar and Irene Michaelson, Vienna and Thomas Durkin, Elmer and Arvo Michaelson, Dr. Frank and Dorothy Armbruster. Signa mostly missed the company of her lady friends from the “good old 1950’s from St. Kilian Parish” Altar and Rosary, Medical Missions, Knitting Club and later Oak Lawn’s AARP Chapter and Worth Township senior clubs. Mom was honored with the Oak Lawn Chapter Volunteer Award of 1997, and P.L.O.W.S. Council on Aging Outstanding Community Service 1996 Award. Mom was devoted to her family and friends. Her generosity, both monetary and helping hands was constant. She was born in a log cabin in a rural area of northern Minnesota-Jordan location. Signa was of  stubborn, strong willed Finnish stock called “Sissu”. She had that same, though not always understandable, Scandinavian spirit that characterizes part of that greatest generation. Mom truly lived a life well lived. To quote “A life so completely lived that when death comes to you like a thief in the night, there will be nothing left for him to steal.” Sincerest thanks to the wonderful staff at Lexington of Orland for their care and patience, and the comfort that they brought to our mom and grandma. Visitation Friday 3-8pm at the Brady-Gill Funeral Home, 16600 S. Oak Park Ave. Tinley Park. Family and friends will meet at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 4100 W. 107th St. Oak Lawn, IL 60453 on Saturday morning, November 25th, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am.
