Anthony J. "Tony" Bucci

Anthony (Tony) J. Bucci, 86, of Oak Forest, passed away on April 23, 2017, at his home with family members by his side. He was born June 26, 1930, in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of Anthony and Christine. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Celeste (Balsamo) Bucci. Also surviving are four children, Mark Bucci (his companion Mary Beth Godfrey), Linda (Bernie) Koch , Tim (Celine) Bucci, and Tina (Gary) Koziel; grandchildren Heather Bucci (fiance’ Thomas Corse), John “Jack” and Gianna Bucci, and great grandchildren Skyler and Bladen Durbon; a sister, Maryanne Kuelbs; a niece, Donna (Jim) Looney, and a nephew, Rick Kuelbs; along with his sister and brother-in law, Jim and Toni Petersen, and several cousins and great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in law, Joseph and Jenny Balsamo and brother-in-law Don Kuelbs. Tony was a champion boxer, having won the Flyweight Boxing Championship in 1953. A Staff Sergeant in the Air Force of the United States of America during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged on February 12, 1955. Tony was a union electrician and worked for many years at the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, from where he retired in 1995. His favorite hobbies were playing his accordion, drawing and painting water color pictures for his children and grandchildren, and collecting antique children’s books to share with his grandchildren. He was very generous and donated to the VFW, Wounded War Veterans, the homeless, and Gigi’s Playhouse, among other charities. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Advocate Hospice Care Center. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Brady-Gill Funeral Home, 16600 S. Oak Park Avenue, Tinley Park, IL. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Damian Catholic Church at 5250 155th Street in Oak Forest, IL. Burial will follow at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery at 1400 South Wolf Road, Hillside, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Damian Catholic Church at 5250 W. 155th Street, in Oak Forest, IL 60452. To Tony's Family: I am sorry to hear about Tony's death. It is never easy to deal with the death of a loved one no matter the circumstances. May God's promise to soon end all suffering and even death on the earth serve as a source of comfort during this time of grief (Revelation 21:4).
