He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Mary Anne (nee Blazina), his parents John and Elizabeth (nee Vrabely), and his sister Millie. He is survived by his children, Michael (Cindy), Mary Therese Krug (Paul), Sister Mary Teresa (Sue), John (Mary), Bishop Joseph Santay, Greg, Tom (Amanda) and Stephen. He will be sadly missed by his twenty-five grandchildren, many of whom he taught to play chess and pinochle- Stephen, Alex, Samantha, Father Paul Krug, Danny, Kevin, Keith, Tom, Elizabeth, Sister Maria Sarto (Catherine), Johnny, Maria, Joey, Michael, Bernadette, Gabrielle, Mary Ann, David, Hannah, Sarah, Nikko, Leah, Jake, Thomas and Danny. John grew up in Whiting, Indiana and attended DePaul University where he met Mary Anne and they were married soon after. He spent 34 years at the IRS and enjoyed an occasional outing to the local horse racing parks, playing cards with neighbors, friends and family, and loved to sing his favorite Disney songs to his kids and later on his grandkids. He had a ready smile and his sense of humor (even in the face of another car repair or washing machine breakdown) was a special gift he bestowed on his family and many others. The family would appreciate donations to St. Joseph’s Novitiate and/or Immaculate Heart Seminary in Round Top, N.Y in his memory. I have memories with my grandpa that I will never forget. "Heroes are remembered, but legends never die", was a quote from one of his favorite movies. You were a legend Grandpa. I'm gonna miss you

It was a sad couple of days having to say goodbye to Grandpa. He will forever be remembered for his caring, kind, and loving attitude towards everyone he met, especially his children and grandchildren. Gone but not forgotten Grandpa, you will always be in our hearts.

My grandpa always put everyone before himself. He has taught me to think of others before myself, and to live life with a smile on my face. I never once saw him without a smile, and he brought happiness and kindness wherever he went. I hope to do the same in my life.
