Nana’s Eulogy
It goes without saying Eileen Serio was a very special person to so many people—the proof is all around us.
She was kind, generous, loving, fiery and always good for-- a laugh and a story.
But she was also much more than that…
Many of you know she moved in with my mom, sister, and I when we need her most—so for all intents and purposes she was another mother figure for me…
But for so many of you—she filled that same role.
She was a mom to the kids she hired at the villa…
She was a mom to the kids she drove back and forth to hockey and skating practice…
She was a mom to all the friends that became family…
To the family that became stronger—because she made sure that we were always there for each other.
We grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, friends and customers—because to her—we were all family—whether it was in blood or bond.
All she ever wanted for all of us was to be the best people we could be….
To know right from wrong…
And shed be sure to tell you when you were wrong.
but even if you were wrong shed be there for you…
no matter what it was--she’d be there.
That’s why so many of you are here today—because she was there for you…
But she wouldn’t want us to be sad about her passing—she’d want us to celebrate her life…
And come together and share stories and support each other the way she taught us…
The way we’ve remembered so many other great people that have gone before her…
So in her words: god bless all those that are here and those that aren’t.

The last time I saw Eileen was at the Fiduccia/Caruso Family Reunion on July 5,2014. She was looking forward to going to France to honor her brother-in-law, Vince Serio, who was killed during WWII. I will always cherish her enthusiasm for the family history book I am writing. What a special lady.
