First met Mark as part of one of SXU's first cohorts for Elementary Education in 2002. As one of only two males in the class, there was a natural bond and friendship that came with his outgoing and sharing personality. We spent every week together for 2-3 years picking up our teaching certificates and graduate degrees and there were many a times when I would see Mark breeze thru a State test or class assignment that made me realize I could do the same.

He will be missed as many have indicated here. Great guy. Persistent, determined, driven, and fun to be around.

As a member of the SXU National Alumni Board our condolences go out to the family and his friends left behind. He was one of us. He will be missed, but definitely not forgotten. The best teachers leave their mark on those they teach and Mark definitely did that. May God bless.

Never met this unique human, but seldom do you meet a person of such desire to walk the walk of devotion that he choose. His journey put to music is very warming to his legacy. My heart goes out to the emptiness of the children and family and prey for their strength today and in the future. His smile is contagious, his inner pain is equally contagious in his loss. I hope he bonds with my husband also an angel in heaven.

Jodie- I was deeply saddened upon hearing of your loss. Mark was a genuinely kind man who thought of others before himself. I pray that the memories you hold dear to your heart be your strength today and all the days that follow.

Lots of love, thoughts and prayers are being sent to you, Jodie and your family. My husband, Steve, had the pleasure of having you as a fantastic student at Grissom Jr. High and I had the pleasure of teaching music at Memorial 5 years ago. I enjoyed getting to know Mark as a superb colleague and great bfriend. My deepest sympathy to everyone.

My most sincere sympathies to Mark's family and friends and students. I know he will be greatly missed by all and that he left indelible marks on everyone's hearts. In the short time that I had the opportunity to work with him, he impressed me as a great and generous person and a gifted educator. Deepest condolences.
