I only recently learned of my friend's death. I'm heartbroken I wasn't able to say goodbye to someone I held so dear. The hours and years we spent together talking, thinking, planning and just enjoying each other will be remembered warmly forever. I completed my masters degree thanks to his strength and encouragement. How does one say thank you for having known and shared part of your life with such a good man of honor. He will always remain in my heart and memory.

We lived next door to Rich and his family in Oak Forest. He was the first to knock on our door , introduce himself and welcome us to the neighborhood . That was Rich- warm , friendly, a great neighbor. We were impressed by his ability to raise his children and love each of them for who they were .I'm sure someone was there to welcome Rich on his new journey.

I've known the Hofflander family since Kristy and I were in gradeschool. Mr. Hofflander was the very best Dad. He tolerated a lot from a buch of young girls with patience and love, and as we got older and had children of our own I realized what a great man he really was.

My deepest sympathy to Rich's dear ones. He was, as some have said, one of the kindest persons I have had tha pleasure of knowing. I was saddened to learn of Rich's death but know that such a fine man and father is in the company of our blessed Lord and surrounded by angels.

I knew Rich when he was a struggling father of four wonderful girls with Gerry by his side. He was a rock when it came to supporting his family and any actvities that supportted them. There he was, after midnight, pounding, sawing, painting the sets that supported his daughter.

He backed each daughter as they made there way through life. He was always there, showing up at each and every event.

He was one who knew his place in life and always gave of himslef to benefit so many others. He couldn't say "no", not to anything he cared about, and he cared about so much.

He joined in singing, laughed at almost everything, and rolled his eyes at each ridiculous thing. He was determined, head-strong, and loving. He was Rich.

There is always a place for the Rich's of this world. And there will be a place for him after this life.
