It has been a little over 3 years since my big brother left this earth to join my father in heaven. He is missed every second of every day..he was my big brother..and he was as kind to strangers as he was to his little sister. He was always there for me...always. I miss you Michael..take care of Kathy and Danny...until we are all together again.

I was very shocked and sad when I heard that Chief O'Connell has passed away.

I had the pleasure to meet him when I was interning at the Tinley Park Police Department in 2005 for a day and remember Chief O'Connell as a very nice and kind man and I enjoyed very much being around him.

My condolences and prayers go out to his family, friends and colleages.

To the O'Connell Family,

My deepest sympathy goes out to your family with sadness from hearing about his passing. I was an old best friend of the Matt Malave/Lewis Family and have been to many of the great gatherings at the holidays right across the street of Matts old home in Tinley Park. Mr O'Connell gave me many encouraging words about life that I will always remember. The whole family will always be in my heart forever. It was a priveledge to know this great big family full of life. May God Bless your family as you go through this tough time.

With Deep Saddness,

James M Calwell

There is not much more that can be said about Mike that has not already been said, but for me, Mike was person that guided me into my career choice of the past 24 years, for that I would like to say thank you.

He was a great leader.

We will always remember the way Mike served the Riverdale Police Department and the entire community with such honesty and integrity. Though we are not related, we were so proud when he went downstate to receive further training. We sensed even then that he would become a real leader in his field. Time has proven us right, but, unfortunately, Mike's time was up way too soon. Tinley Park has lost a great man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

Mike was such a personable down to earth family man. He was devoted to his family and his job. He reminds me of one of my brothers, the go to guy in the family, sometimes soft spoken but always there for everyone for anything. My heart goes out to his wife Barb and children Mike, Colleen and Michele and his brothers and sisters and mother. I know how much he was loved and will be missed.
